I believe that every Christian at one time or another has asked, “Is this from God?” about something in their life. Over the past year, this pandemic has had long-lasting effects on the world. Some people felt that it was a world-wide judgment from God. I am not saying it was or wasn’t, however, what I do know is, that when God wanted to get the attention of His people, He would do something drastic. Through the Old Testament, when Israel would put God on the back burner, so to speak, He would send an oppressor to rule over them. Eventually, Israel would cry out to God and He would rescue them.

Maybe God sent this pandemic to the world to get the attention of His people. Maybe He wanted to show the world, like He did Egypt, that He alone is God. If you are a faithful follower of God, then you know that nothing is out of the realm of possibility because with God all things are possible.

We know that God wants all people to come to repentance (II Peter 3:9) and to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (I Timothy 2:4). Knowing this, there has to be something to motivate people to turn to God. The church has the responsibility of taking the gospel or the good news into the world. Frankly, especially here in the United States, we have failed to carry out our mission effectively. If we were preaching and teaching like we should be, our country and the world as a whole wouldn’t be glorifying the immoral and the evil that is so widely accepted as normal in today’s culture. With that being said, maybe God felt He needed to send a plague, if you will, in order to get people to turn to Him.

Many Christians have been fervently praying for God to put an end to this pandemic. Now we have vaccines available. I know some people don’t trust them because they feel that they were not tested enough. I am not judging anybody, however, is it possible that these vaccines are also from God? He can do all things, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that this is the answer to many prayers. Remember the words of God in II Chronicles 7:1414 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. This is a promise from God and God always keeps His promises! God does not always answer our prayers in the way we envision, so sometimes we miss or overlook the answer when He sends them!

Whether or not we believe the pandemic or the vaccine is from God is of little consequence in the whole scheme of life. What really matters is that we put our faith and trust in God and allow His word to guide our lives. Ours to be obedient and glorify God in all we do. We must accept God’s free gift grace that was offered through the death of Jesus on the cross. By rising from the grave, Jesus gave us the hope of conquering death by being buried in baptism and raised to walk a new life (Romans 6:4)!

In short, just trust God.
