We have “talked” often during the time I have been writing these lessons about the power of prayer.  We’ve learned that we can take all of our fears and concerns to God and that He hears us and helps us.

Today I want to look at a different kind of prayer.  It’s a time when I sit down with God and make my prayer time all about Him.  I don’t ask for anything.  All I do is praise God for who He is and what He does.  One way I can do this is to just speak from my heart.  These are called “prayers of praise”.  I acknowledge the greatness of God and specifically thank Him for blessings He has given me and ways He has shown up and helped me in my life.

There is another way that I can praise God through prayer that I would like to share with you today.  I truly believe that it brings God great pleasure when I repeat scriptures from the Bible back to Him.  Let me give you a couple of examples to show you what I mean.

In I Timothy 1:17 (KJV) it reads:

17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

In a prayer of praise, I can say, “Now to you, the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.  Amen.”

Another one I really like is Psalm 86:10.

For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
    you alone are God.

There are many, many scriptures in the Bible that talk about the greatness and majesty of God.  Some I have memorized and can quote them to God in the middle of the night.  Others I have written down.  It’s OK to read them back to God in the form of a prayer.  To help you get started, if this is a new concept for you, I have (actually my amazing husband did it for me) cut and pasted some of my favorite scriptures.

Deuteronomy 10:17

17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

Deuteronomy 32:3 – 4

I will proclaim the name of the Lord.
    Oh, praise the greatness of our God!

He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
    and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
    upright and just is he.

Remember you can change the wording to “You are the Rock.  Your works are perfect…”

Job 9:10-12

10 

He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed,
    miracles that cannot be counted.

11 

When he passes me, I cannot see him;
    when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.

12 

If he snatches away, who can stop him?
    Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’

Psalm 8

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
    in the heavens.

Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
    to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
    which you have set in place,

what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?

You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
    and crowned them with glory and honor.

You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
    you put everything under their feet:

    and the animals of the wild,

the birds in the sky,
    and the fish in the sea,
    all that swim the paths of the seas.

Psalm 145:1-3

I will exalt you, my God the King;
    I will praise your name for ever and ever.

Every day I will praise you
    and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    his greatness no one can fathom.

Isaiah 46:8-11

“Remember this, keep it in mind,
    take it to heart, you rebels.

Remember the former things, those of long ago;
    I am God, and there is no other;
    I am God, and there is none like me.

I make known the end from the beginning,
    from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
    and I will do all that I please.’

From the east I summon a bird of prey;
    from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about;

Jeremiah 10:6 – 7

No one is like you, Lord;
    you are great,
    and your name is mighty in power.

    King of the nations?
    This is your due.
Among all the wise leaders of the nations
    and in all their kingdoms,
    there is no one like you.

Jeremiah 32:17 – 19

17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18 You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve.

Daniel 6:26 – 27

26 “I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.

“For he is the living God
    and he endures forever;
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
    his dominion will never end.

27 

He rescues and he saves;
    he performs signs and wonders
    in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel
    from the power of the lions.”

I absolutely love this one!!  I use it often and I’m here to tell you that God has responded to it in amazing ways!!!  Again, I change the “he” to “you”.

Ephesians 3:20 – 21

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Revelation 11:16 – 17

16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
    the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
    and have begun to reign.

Sweet Sisters, I hope after reading these verses you have a huge sense of awe (and maybe some goosebumps) about the God we serve.  THERE IS NONE LIKE HIM!!!  He deserves all our praise and honor and allegiance.
